Dr. Sandra S.L. Fielding, DAOM, LAc., Dipl. Ac.
Dr. Sandra S.L. Fielding, Sam (as she is known to friends) is a highly trained, skilled practitioner with a family history in medicine. Coming from a family of orthopedic surgeons, she too applies her ability to focus and attention to detail to hone her craft with an excellent needling technique that is pain free and effective. While the path to medicine was inevitable for her, while interviewing at western medical schools she realized that she wanted to practice a form of medicine that allowed her to help a wider population of patients with a less invasive specialty.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Biology, Sam spent over a decade as a professional ski patroller in Utah, California, and New Zealand. As a former professional big mountain skier and a sponsored athlete competing for Alta Ski Area, Roxy, and Surefoot she has an understanding of the demands and commitment required to compete at the highest level. While her competitive ski days are over, she continues to train and compete in both road and trail races, specializing in the half marathon. But like many other athletes she doesn’t limit herself to just running, when she can find the time Sam skis, bikes, climbs, does yoga, plays golf, slalom water skis, and plays ice hockey. She has also been known to climb on to racehorses at any given opportunity, having grown up riding and competing horses in Maryland in a variety of disciplines, with a preference for those that involve high speed or jumping.

Medicine and the human body/experience has always been a fascination Sam. Coming from a family of orthopedic surgeons, practicing medicine is a family legacy. It is in her nature to be constantly engaged in something, and medicine provides an exhaustive field of knowledge to keep her learning. Never being one to shy away from a challenge, the complexity of medicine and the patient experience motivates and allows Sam to provide for her patients.
Medicine is challenging and only certain individuals have the ability to be truly gifted practitioners, it is this level of practice that Sam seeks to gain with acupuncture. Acupuncture gives both the practitioner and the patient more flexibility in how care can be managed.
You might be wondering… what is acupuncture exactly? Acupuncture is a form of medicine that gives the practitioner the ability to change a patient’s condition immediately. Acupuncture is cost effective and low risk. It can manage a wide variety of illnesses and assist in every day stress relief techniques (to see what conditions it can treat click here). It is an ancient healing system that recognizes that health is not merely the absence of illness, but of optimal vitality.
Acupuncture as any form of medicine is an art. To practice well there is a balance between compassion for one’s patient along with an analytical perspective to determine where the patient’s disease originates. Sam has the ability to engage with patients immediately in a way that puts them at ease, and allows her to gain insight into their very personal conditions quickly. In utilizing her intuitive, yet analytical mind she formulates a plan of treatment for holistic wellness that best suits the patient’s condition at that moment.
Sam has a commitment to those she works with be it patients, employees, suppliers, to always engage in a manner that is respectful, professional, and thoughtful of the needs of the people that she interacts with. She will provide the highest level of care to her patients that she can provide. She will continue to educate herself so that her skills and knowledge are above and beyond the general accepted level of understanding, and will constantly strive for excellence in her clinical results.
